Abstract The field of (U-Th)/He geochronology and thermochronology has grown enormously over the past ∼25 years. tool is applicable across much geologic time, new chronometers are under continuous development, method used in a diverse array studies. Consequently, technique rapidly expanding user base, labs being established worldwide. This presents both opportunities challenges. Currently there no universally agreedupon protocols for reporting measured data or derivatives. Nor standardized practices He diffusion kinetic, 4He/3He, ramped heating data. Approaches uncertainties associated with all types also vary widely. Here, we address these issues. We review fundamentals methods, materials that can be dated, how acquired, process choices reduction, make recommendations uncertainty reporting. advocate primary derived reported, along statements assumptions, appropriate references, clear descriptions methods to compute from values. adoption more comprehensive uniform approaches will enable re-reduced future different interpretative contexts reduction facilitate inter-comparison sets generated by laboratories. Together, this enhance value, cross-disciplinary use, reliability, ongoing development chronology.
